A group of 11 fabric artists, The Fabricators, is showing their work in an exhibition at The Art Gallery Osoyoos (TAGO). The show opened on Thursday, Sept. 3 and runs until Saturday, Sept. 26.
The all-female group is mainly from the South Okanagan, but there are a few more distant artists. They started in 2002 and aim to explore innovative techniques in fabric art, as well as to encourage and support each other.
Titled “Vertically Challenged,” the show challenged the artists to create a quilt measuring 15″ wide by 40″ inches high, hung in portrait orientation.
The challenge was to create work that fitted these size restrictions while showing the artists’ personal styles and creativity.
The opening if this exhibition came a day before the First Friday Art Walk on Sept. 4. For this event, there are eight venues including both Osoyoos galleries and several local businesses that support the local arts.
The next First Friday event is Oct. 2 and includes Best Cellars Bistro & Books, TAGO, Artists on Main, The Okanagan Art Gallery, The Osoyoos District Museum, Century 21 Pop-Up Art, Wayside Select Books & Art, and Backroads Brewing.
The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
It is located at 8713 Main St. in Osoyoos, B.C., just west of Town Hall.
