A new exhibition, Young at Art, features dozens of artworks by local students of all ages. The show officially opens Friday, June 6 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos (TAGO) and it wraps up on Saturday, June 21.

There was a soft launch on Thursday, June 5.

The official opening coincides with the First Friday Art Walk event when local galleries invite the community to meet some of their artists on the first Friday of the Month between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Other locations holding events as part of First Friday are The Okanagan Art Gallery, Wayside Books & Art, and the Osoyoos Museum. Admission is free.

The idea for Young at Art came about after Roberta Nott, a TAGO board member, was looking at gallery documents of past shows and learned that previous shows featuring the work of young people had been successful.

A committee was formed, and Karen Lundin, a TAGO volunteer and retired art teacher, contacted local schools. Other organizations such as the Elks Lodge and Osoyoos Credit Union pitched in.

During Young at Art, with cooperation of the Osoyoos and District Arts Council (ODAC) is collaborating in a Kids’ Day Festival on June 14, with events at Town Hall Park coinciding with the Osoyoos Farmers’ Market and with support from the Osoyoos Museum. The market is extending its hours during this event.

Aside from First Friday, TAGO is open non-summer hours, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

It is located at 8713 Main St. in Osoyoos, B.C., just west of Town Hall.
