A new exhibition opening this month at The Art Gallery Osoyoos invites visitors to do more than just look at art — it asks them to take part.
People’s Choice opened today, January 15, and runs through January 31. The show brings together 33 artworks in a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, metalwork, woodturning, glass, collage, and textiles. According to gallery manager Anne Marie Damjanovic, the goal is to connect artists with new audiences while encouraging the public to engage directly with the work by voting for their favourite piece
Visitors are encouraged to cast a ballot during the exhibition’s run, with votes tallied at the end of the show. Three cash prizes will be awarded: $250 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third. The exhibition includes artists of all ages and experience levels, from seasoned exhibitors to students, with several entries by artists under the age of 16. While many works are by artists from Osoyoos, Oliver, and Keremeos, submissions also came from elsewhere in the Okanagan Valley and as far away as Alberta and Nova Scotia.
The gallery itself recently reopened after a short January closure, during which it received fresh paint, improved lighting, and general maintenance.
An opening reception will be held this Saturday, January 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering visitors a chance to meet some of the participating artists.
The Art Gallery Osoyoos is located at 8713 Main St., just west of Town Hall. It is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
